Deliciously Easy Spinach Puff Pastry Rolls: Your Perfect 40-Minute Appetizer

  • Author: New York Recipe
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 10 pieces 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

A deliciously easy and incredibly flaky Spinach Puff Pastry Rolls recipe: a simple appetizer filled with creamy garlic herb cheese and savory spinach. Perfect for parties, ready in 40 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 oz frozen chopped spinach, thawed
  • 6.5 oz container Alouette Garlic & Herb Soft Spreadable Cheese
  • ¾ cup grated Parmesan
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten (for brushing)
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: 2 garlic cloves, minced

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Spinach: Place a thin kitchen towel over a large bowl and add the thawed spinach. Wrap tightly and wring out as much liquid as possible. Discard the excess liquid.
  3. Make the Filling: In the same bowl, combine the spinach, garlic & herb cheese, Parmesan, egg, and minced garlic (if using). Mix well and season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  4. Assemble the Rolls: Slice each puff pastry sheet in half to create two rectangles, about 7 inches wide. Working along the long side, spread about 2 inches of the spinach mixture on one edge and roll up tightly like a log.
  5. Cut and Bake: Slice each log into 2½-inch pieces and arrange them evenly on the prepared baking sheet. Brush with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  6. Bake: Bake for 20–25 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through, until golden brown and flaky.
  7. Serve: Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Best enjoyed warm!

Notes

  • Moisture Control: Crucial Step: Squeeze all the water out of the thawed spinach to prevent a soggy filling and pastry.
  • Pastry Rolling: Roll the log as tightly as possible to ensure the final pieces hold their beautiful spiral shape after baking.
  • Cheese Choice: Alouette or Boursin cheese provides a smoother, creamier filling than cream cheese, and its flavor is already seasoned with garlic and herbs.
  • Make Ahead: The filling can be made 1-2 days ahead. The rolls can also be assembled, sliced, and refrigerated for up to 4 hours before baking.
  • Serving: Serve warm. You can reheat leftover rolls in a toaster oven for 5 minutes to restore their crispness.
