Description

  • A delicious and easy-to-make Spinach and Artichoke Puff Pastry appetizer: a flaky, buttery shell with a creamy, savory filling. A perfect and crowd-pleasing snack or party food.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Filling:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed but cold

  • 3/4 cup artichoke hearts, roughly chopped

  • 1 1/2 cups blanched spinach, roughly chopped

  • 1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese

  • 12 garlic cloves, minced

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened

  • 3/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 3 tablespoons Dan-O’s Cheesoning (or seasoning of choice) For the Pastry:

  • 1 egg yolk (for brushing)

  • 2 teaspoons whole milk

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Set to 375°F (190°C).

  • Mix the Filling: In a bowl, combine softened cream cheese, minced garlic, and seasoning until smooth. Stir in chopped spinach, artichokes, feta, and mozzarella.

  • Prepare the Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry on parchment paper and spread the filling evenly over it.

  • Roll & Slice: Roll the pastry into a tight log and cut it into 8–10 slices.

  • Arrange & Brush: Place slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Whisk together the egg yolk and milk, then brush over each piece.

  • Bake: Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown. If the bottoms are pale, move to a lower oven rack for a few more minutes.

  • Serve: Enjoy warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Puff Pastry: Keep puff pastry cold until you’re ready to use it. This helps it puff up beautifully and makes it easier to handle.

  • Spinach Prep: Thaw and squeeze the spinach very dry. This is a crucial step to prevent a watery filling and a soggy pastry.

  • Cheese Choice: Use full-fat cream cheese for the creamiest filling. Other cheeses like Parmesan or provolone can be used for the shredded cheese.

  • Seasoning: Dan-O’s Cheesoning is a savory seasoning blend. You can use any all-purpose savory seasoning of your choice as a substitute.

  • Make Ahead: You can assemble and slice the pinwheels, then freeze them uncooked. Bake from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cook time.
