Description
- A delicious and easy-to-make Spinach and Artichoke Puff Pastry appetizer: a flaky, buttery shell with a creamy, savory filling. A perfect and crowd-pleasing snack or party food.
Ingredients
For the Filling:
-
1 sheet puff pastry, thawed but cold
-
3/4 cup artichoke hearts, roughly chopped
-
1 1/2 cups blanched spinach, roughly chopped
-
1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese
-
1–2 garlic cloves, minced
-
8 oz cream cheese, softened
-
3/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
-
3 tablespoons Dan-O’s Cheesoning (or seasoning of choice) For the Pastry:
-
1 egg yolk (for brushing)
-
2 teaspoons whole milk
Instructions
-
Preheat the Oven: Set to 375°F (190°C).
-
Mix the Filling: In a bowl, combine softened cream cheese, minced garlic, and seasoning until smooth. Stir in chopped spinach, artichokes, feta, and mozzarella.
-
Prepare the Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry on parchment paper and spread the filling evenly over it.
-
Roll & Slice: Roll the pastry into a tight log and cut it into 8–10 slices.
-
Arrange & Brush: Place slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Whisk together the egg yolk and milk, then brush over each piece.
-
Bake: Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown. If the bottoms are pale, move to a lower oven rack for a few more minutes.
-
Serve: Enjoy warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
-
Puff Pastry: Keep puff pastry cold until you’re ready to use it. This helps it puff up beautifully and makes it easier to handle.
-
Spinach Prep: Thaw and squeeze the spinach very dry. This is a crucial step to prevent a watery filling and a soggy pastry.
-
Cheese Choice: Use full-fat cream cheese for the creamiest filling. Other cheeses like Parmesan or provolone can be used for the shredded cheese.
-
Seasoning: Dan-O’s Cheesoning is a savory seasoning blend. You can use any all-purpose savory seasoning of your choice as a substitute.
-
Make Ahead: You can assemble and slice the pinwheels, then freeze them uncooked. Bake from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cook time.
