  • Author: New York Recipe
  • Total Time: 10 minutes (plus marinating)
  • Yield: Serves 8

Description

  • The Best Smoked Salmon Dip: a delicious and easy 10-minute dip with rich smoked salmon, a creamy base, briny capers, and fresh herbs. A perfect gourmet appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 14 oz smoked salmon
  • 1 celery stalk, finely diced
  • 1 small shallot, finely diced
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp sour cream
  • 2 tsp smooth Dijon mustard
  • 2 tsp non-pareil capers
  • 1 tbsp fresh chopped chives
  • 1 tbsp fresh chopped dill
  • 1 tbsp fresh chopped tarragon
  • Zest and juice of 1 lemon
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Kosher salt & freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine smoked salmon, celery, shallot, mayonnaise, sour cream, Dijon mustard, capers, chives, dill, tarragon, lemon zest, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix and Season: Use a fork to break up the salmon and mix thoroughly. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  • Chill and Serve: Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld. Serve chilled with crackers, chips, veggies, or spread on toasted bread.

Notes

  • Marinating: Do not skip the chilling time! It allows the flavors to fully develop, resulting in a much richer and more cohesive dip.
  • Salmon Quality: Use high-quality smoked salmon for the best flavor. Cold-smoked varieties work beautifully.
  • Herb Freshness: Using fresh herbs like dill, chives, and tarragon is key to the vibrant, fresh flavor of the dip.
  • Spice Adjustment: Start with the suggested amount of seasonings and adjust to your taste. A little cayenne pepper can add a touch of heat.
  • Serving Options: For a more elegant presentation, serve the dip in a beautiful bowl garnished with extra fresh dill and chives.
